How To Train Your Dragon

One of the greatest things about opening a book shop is that I get to go to trade fairs and meet authors – and meeting Cressida Cowell recently was one of those wonderfully inspirational experiences that gave me a whole new insight into her books. ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ is a great book to engage children with reading, not only due to the funny style and engaging tone, but through the cleverly orchestrated way that Cowell purposely creates a messy, non-traditional physical book to combat the issues many children have with accessing stories. The series clearly reflects Cowell’s passionate commitment to removing the barriers to reading that exist for many children, and this first book generates an excitement and a tension for Hiccup’s world and adventures that is sure to keep them hooked right through to the very end…
