This is an original watercolour and ink artwork by Charlotte Voake from the picture book Elsie Piddock Skips in her Sleep – which tells the story of a little girl called Elsie who the fairies call upon to save the children’s skipping grounds from a man who intends to demolish them.

In this illustration, we see Elsie leaping into the air in a ‘strong skip’ in front of the factory-building Lord who wants to destroy the skipping grounds.
